I like the idea of covering the front and right - left sides. I also like the dragon. It does bother me a bit that the front has no cover, will this malp be the cover? I like the drone idea it could help us. What if we get a culture that is primitive that will treat the drone like a god? This I don't like.
Stops a bit.
I think once we go through the gate to a place we should dial home again right away, that way if we need an immediate exit its there for us. How long will this gate stay open?

Well Reny, once the Gate is clear of any outgoing objects, or say the wormhole is clear of any travel through it, it automatically shuts down, waiting to be dialed again. The Iris can be manually closed but from the point of origin. As far as our testing has shown.
And Major, the drone idea is a valid one. We could refit a MALP with one or two and see how that performs. If it isn't workable as we would like, we might see if GW Enterprises could remodel the MALPS to carry them.

I understand Ambassador, when we go through it.
I am talking about when we arrive at our destination, and we don't know if it is safe or not, we dial home. How long will the gate stay open if no one enters it?

Good question. Well, its shut down now. Should we try opening it again?

“Perhaps we’re jumping the gun. Let’s get done what we came for first. The Stargate network has been set up for ages. The DHD is in place so it should be all good. Captain….with your permission I think it would be a good idea to take the team out on a standard patrol.”

How long or old is the system of gates?

This trip, I'm part of the team, proceed Major as you would during what you might consider a "normal" trip through the gate.

"Well Oliver the Stargate system was built by the Ancients...so it has been here for a while.....Very well then Captain....Alright let's form up. This is just going to be a standard reconnaissance mission to just see what is out there. In the future we will see about aerial reconnaissance to get a better picture of what we are going into. This is the Alpha Site and it is safe so this will just be a practice run on what to expect. When going into a situation we must be mindful of what resources are available. If we get cut off from the Gate and have to hunker down for one reason or another we will need shelter, water and fire. These three are THE most important in a survival situation. So if we are cut off from the Gate the most important is Shelter....You can go up to 3 days without water if you have a proper shelter. You can go 3 weeks without food.....so with that said let's hope we never have to test that. So with this I'll take point...we just need to travel in a line and make a little noise as possible....We are just going to go a couple clicks to the north and then circle around and make our way back here. Let's move out."
*starts walking to the north...weapon in hand.

Makes a mental note to look at the emergency food and water supplies that can be carried in the future by the team.
Follows in behind the others, ahead of Danek.
Thinks to herself, that she is grateful for this site, and this exercise, because no one other then the set up crew has been here, so it really is unknown territory.

Small talk Major or should we all be quiet for these missions?

"Good question Nigel....I think for this exercise questions and small talk should be encouraged....a way to get to know the team. We all of course know one another on Solaris but it can be quite another out on a mission....would you agree Captain?"

Major, I am glad you are leading the Gate1 team. I believe we've made an excellent choice. Danek, as we trek along, any word on how well the opening of the 2nd floor of the Commons did? I assume your lovely wife had some inside intel on it. It seemed quite well received and embraced by all on Solaris.

I appreciate this change to explore the alpha site, other then the rigorous scans we took on it, before deciding to use it as the alpha site, and its really nice to get out.

The more I see of this place the more it confirms its the perfect site.
The scans showed us it was, with no inhabitants and no signs of villages, or history of villages, and of course its orbital cycle, keeping it hidden in space made it perfect.
Maybe it was considered to small to inhabit, for those who travelled in space, for whatever the reason, I'm grateful.
I am seriously considering coming here regularly for a daily walk.
Watches a squirrel run by.

"Agreed....good location to hide a Stargate. It's been so long since I have been off of Solaris that I forgot what it felt like to be on solid ground.....Ok let's start circling around and get back to the gate."
"Captain...I did not get a chance to check on the facility here. Are there barracks for longer stays?"

It was a major success for all of Solaris Ambassador. Not just the shoppe owners. (begins hike back to the Gate as he continues to bring up the rear)

There are, and an abundance of supplies, I don't recall exactly what I asked for, 6 months of supplies for 6 people, that sounds about right, and the barracks are connected to the other buildings via underground tunnels with a hidden tunnel exit in the opposite direction. The other buildings include a kitchen, and then a work / laboratory building and of course the quarters.
Supplies of course can be adjusted as we figure out what it is we will need, but I would rather have too much then too little.
