Alright then. To the parents of Donny, I know this is a difficult time for you. We are doing our best to figure this all out and hopefully make it right.
Now with that said, you all know, we are here for Donny who has had a sudden growth spurt of 4 and 1/2 years in just a matter of a few hours of his being brought to Solaris.
Captain Thomas was able to get the records of his scans at the Alpha site and we have looked over our test scans those of the Alpha site AND compared all to the moment of his transformation. It was fortunate that we had still been scanning him so the comparison could be made.
The DNA anomaly that the Alpha site EMH detected can be concluded that it wasn't an anomaly, but an implant. (looking at the parents) Now I know that sounds a bit daunting, but I can say honestly that I believe that an implant is better than an anomaly. He was not born with this.
Nurse, would you continue with the diagnosis since it was your test that found the implant?

Thank you Doctor. Yes, as best we can tell it's an implant. But for now, it is still implanted because for the moment, it is hiding like it was when we and the Aplha site EMH first took scans.
Donny has an extra protein molecule that is attached to his Pituitary gland. This molecule is in the form of a nanite. It showed up during Donny's growth spurt because it had been activated to stimulate the pituitary gland which in turn started growth.
You may ask how would I recognize something this unusual even for our tech. We have Dr. Eiluned to thank for my knowledge. Before she left on Sabbatical, I was fortunate to work with her on occasionally when she needed assistance on holographic testing, right after the time when our own Head of Security, Lt Adam Kendall and others were taken hostage by the Drej. She titled her study, "The evolution of the Drej!"
Yes, you heard me right, The Drej!
She was very interested in learning about the evolution the Drej made in not only their appearance, but the way they could evolve into almost human form. She believed that they were experimenting with Human DNA and nanites.

I'm sorry Major, it does point in the direction of the Drej.
I suppose with an infant, they were assuming that they could possibly learn enough from the experiment to...well Dr.Eiluned thought that the Drej might have been on the decline species wise and becoming extinct. Lucky for us and the Universe of course. She theorized that with what they could learn from these experiments, their species could thrive again and if so, this would be a way to continue with their domination.

They must have been at this for quite some time to get your Child away from the Gou'ald Major. After all, Ms. Manning was held in a sarcophagus many years ago until you freed her. This also begs the question, How did they let little Donny get away from them?
I fear there is only one answer for that. And we must be proactive on our side of this.
Nurse Mitchell and I believe Donny was let go on purpose knowing full well that we would bring him home.
Captain, the Drej now have a way to locate Solaris!!!
We would be fools not to think otherwise.

From the nature of the Nanite, and from Dr. Eiluned's testing results, we are theorizing that the Nanite is not symbiotic.
This may be hard to hear for all of you, but we believe the protein molecule/nanite is being controlled. It showed no sign of activity from the time little Donny arrived here up until he actually grew older. I believe the Drej are currently controlling it. To what end we can only speculate. Perhaps he (or should I say his chemical make-up) has to be a certain age for the nanite to do their bidding?
If it is a communication device, you can be assured they will find the location of Solaris soon if they haven't already.
Nurse Mitchell, with your first hand experience of tests run along side Dr. Eiluned, the prospects of its removal from the child?....Successfully? I know that has to be the next question from the parents.

Thinking to herself, she knows in the back of her mind, there is a strong growing concern about the drej knowing the location of Solaris, but this has to be resolved, and no matter where the child goes, there is going to be danger.... still feeling a bit of disbelief , in truth shock, at how diabolic this drej plan is.
Now, if they can remove it, that will make all the difference in the world...

I'm sorry Captain. I was thrown a bit by the EMH's question, realizing just how frightened the parents must be.
(looks at them as he speaks)
I did work some long hours with Dr. Eiluned on her holographic testing. Until we get in there, we don't even know if the nanite CAN be removed. Dr. Eiluned's test did show it was possible. At least 95% of the 100% time we did test. But remember, they were only holographic tests.
With the EMH's assistance, I do believe the nanite can be removed. But keep in mind, they were just tests and not real time surgeries. At this point in time, I can't honestly tell you that we would have the outcome you are looking for. Little Donny may recover, but would it reverse the aging he has been through? I just don't know. Of course, we also have to consider with the Drej, there may be more involved with the nanite. Possibly connected in some way to his brain. If he lives through it, would he continue to develop normally or would there be damage done by the nanite to.... (gulp) I know this is not what you wanted to hear.
