EMH, I think there are things we don't yet understand, and only Oliver might be able to explain that.
As for the right now, and the effect, I am at a loss. Have you ever seen or heard of anything like this before?

Excuse me Captain. (Walks over to the small med station at the top of the bed Oliver is in and picks up the tablet, then returns to the Captain's side) To answer your question, no. I have never seen any symbiotic relationship on this level before. (begins looking over the test results) His physical functions seem to be fine. No damage to any internal organs. But his Serotonin levels are off the charts. (looks at the Captain) That's a neurotransmitter that is a powerful vasoconstrictor and is found especially in the brain and blood serum. That definitely could lead to the pain he is having. And if he and Azcad are linked, well that could could mean that the Azcadians share some sort of metabolic link to their planet at the cellular level.

Things to herself, I guess it would be fascinating from a medical point of view.
Is there anything you can do to bring down his serotonin levels?

I could administer an anti-systolic drug to force his adrenaline levels downward. If done slowly, it could bring the pain under control until it levels off and discontinues. If Azcad is truly sharing its pain with Oliver, it may take a few days of treatment to level the pain off as we wait for Azcad to discontinue its pain.
Right now, this is just an intelligent guess on my part. I would initially keep Oliver here during the treatment, but if he refuses knowing how much he enjoys his SickBay visits, I could have a Nurse administer the drug to him in his quarters until things return to normal. I would give him an intravenous drip now, which is the slow beginning treatment, then a hypo once a day in his quarters until all is well. Assuming that our goal is the same as Azcad and they both begin to heal.

Good idea. Prepare one, hopefully we won't have to use it. And also prepare a Diasthenus drip, 200mL. I want to begin the treatment immediately if he agrees to it.
(Speaks to Oliver as the Nurse goes to prepare a sedative hypo and the intravenous drip)

Oliver, you don't have to move, well only to talk.
You explained briefly this connection to Azcad to me before, but the doctor has brought up an interesting question.
But you need to know something first, and that the planet itself as far as I know is ok, what happened was we found a dimensional portal, and to prevent some nasties wanting to come through it, we destroyed it. We found out that that was Azcad material in the gate, which is why I think you are in pain.

(Adjusts the hypo spray for the sedative, walks over to the side table of Oliver's bed and lays it there for the Doctor to administer when he needs too. Smiles at Oliver then returns to the cabinet across the room to begin getting the Intravenous drip set up with the medication ordered)
