*After they leave the room he shakes his head at what the EMH relates to Sharrel*
*Then turns to the Captain* I never thought I would ever miss our EMH on Solaris until I experienced this one. Remind me to send him a flower arrangement when we get back. He needs to know how appreciated he is.

I'll try.
That aside, how are you?

Looks incredulous for a moment as she tries to think of a tactful reply then gives up and follows Sharrel to the EMH’s office

*points to the wheelchair the EMH brought in*
That pretty much says it all. More importantly, how are you? I understand you were shot out of the sky by the Drej. They sure don't know who they are playing with do they?
*lowers his head*
I wish I had been there to help you. You must have been scared.
*raises his head and looks her straight in the eyes*
Well, at least a little bit? *slight grin*

Tanya can you please run a medical database search for learning materials on human psychology and psychiatry. Case studies and experimental data might be most useful.
Download to a tablet for me please while I have a quick consult with the EMH.

I can do that right now for you.
*heads for the computer terminal furthest away from the office. Knowing Sharrel as well as she does has a fair idea how that conversation is going to go and is more than happy to be elsewhere*

Thank you Tanya
*Puts on a professional smile takes a deep breath and heads into the EMH’s office and closes the door*
The chair is a very practical idea Dr, and should prove quite useful in the long term.
Looking at the post-operative scans the swelling is more significant than I would like.
Given his previous adverse reactions to anti-inflammatory medication it is going to be more of a challenge to balance the need to keep him mobile and the absolute need not to exacerbate the swelling and risk nerve damage.
The hyperbaric therapy should help but it will not be a quick fix.
I think planning to confine him to the chair out-with supervised rehab sessions for at least the next four weeks, unless he makes significant improvements is sensible and logical.
HOWEVER
It is important to take into account the fact that humanoids are not always sensible or logical, especially after suffering a major injury and our duty of care extends to our patient’s mental wellbeing as well as their physical health.
*pulls the feed from Sci’s bioded up on the screen in the office*
These are the readings from after I left the room
These are the readings from just before you introduced him to the chair
These are the readings from just after you brought the chair in, you will note a significant spike in blood pressure, heart rate, adrenaline and cortisol in the last set of readings
As you may have noticed when you were speaking to the professor, his body language and tone of voice indicated significant mental distress.
The chair absolutely will benefit his physical health, however as the patient has not yet come to terms with his injury, being suddenly confronted with a tangible representation of his current physical limitations was damaging to his mental health.
It would have been better to allow him to rest, then assess his mood, talk over options and explain his prognosis and time scales for recovery before bringing in the chair when he was ready.

Sci, before we talk about me, I want to talk about you,
Taking his hand into hers.
I can tell from the way you are taking right now, that you are under a huge amount of stress, and you are trying to be cheerful and considerate. What is going on?

Captain...Anita, what began as a chance to help the cause against the Drej has led to, well this! *the look on her face tells him she doesn't understand*
Maybe I should start from the beginning. When I went aboard the Titan, Major Voss asked my assistance in the transporter room. I was in charge of helping transport those damned Drej out into space. I had the experience with the transporters to be able to help the cause. And I wanted too. I felt I was finally making up for....for that mishap I caused on our vacation. *turns away from looking at her as he explains* That my stupidity trying to obtain alien life from that glowing, electric planet we visited and almost getting us killed.
The transporter buffers blowing like they did and sending me across the room into a bulkhead was my comeupance for that stupid stunt. All is right in the Universe now. I believe I got off easy as those energy beings gave me a jolt of the power they held. Why they didn't finish me off then is a surprise to me.
*looks back at Anita* So, here I am. Looking at life in that chair over there. And I am going to take this punishment. Its what I deserve for putting you and Sharrel in danger on that planet. Something I haven't been able to forget since it happened.

Sci, so I understand you correctly, you are telling me that because you made a mistake, you feel that you are being punished for it?

Now look here Doctor, I am glad we agree on what the Professor is needing for his care, short and long term. But how dare you question my ability to care. For humans or otherwise!
This is a WAR ship if you haven't noticed. I deal with soldiers and officers daily. Situations here are much different than on a space station. Life and death emergencies are a way of daily life. I may not have the spit or shine needed to coddle a patient, but my programming is indeed top of the line, state of the art! If my actions have been that damaging to the Professor, or anyone, you have the authority to take me offline.

As the Chief Medical Officer of Solaris it is my responsibility to oversee ALL of the medical staff under my command. As this is a Solaris Vessel that means you are directly within that chain of command.
And if you check the personnel records you will see that I not only graduated from Fleet Officer Training on Earth but worked my way up through the ranks. I have served on a number of warships and know well the challenge of dealing with life and death situations and dealing with both military and civilian staff and patients.
Your programming is top notch when it comes to medical facts and procedures. You are essentially very well educated, but you have never benefited from being a junior Dr and having the arrogance knocked out of you by the nursing staff never mind your supervising consultant. Your programmers have obviously not added any memories of failure to temper your intellect.
I am not going to deactivate you any more than I would stun an organic member of staff. I do not believe you are simply a medical device to be turned on and off at my whim.
However I am also not going to allow you continue to practice unsupervised, particularly if you are unwilling put in the time and effort to improve your practice.
Look at the readings Dr, your actions had an adverse effect on your civilian patient. That is not acceptable

(Sits down at his deck, looking over the readings again) Very well Doctor. My programming apparently needs updated. I had not understood your placement in the chain of command. Clearly I am out of line in that respect. Respectfully, I offer my apologies. As for the Professor, I do concede his adverse reactions to my line of care. My concern is and always has been for the well being of all my patients. With time, perhaps I can "bend" my processes into something more to your liking. My next visit with the Professor will include an apology to him as well. Will there be anything else Doctor? ooc The Professor is right lady, you are at your best when riled up.

Thank you Dr,
All of the organic staff including myself must complete a certain amount of continuing professional development and training each year to renew our certification to practice.
I never realised before that we don’t require that of our EMH’s we will remedy that.
Meantime Tanya will compile a list of learning materials that you may find useful.
There isn’t a holodeck here but there are emitters here so you can run training scenarios when time permits.
Thank you for your time Dr.
*Heads to the door*

OOC: Wake up you two...she has been throwing that riled up attitude around for a couple of days now. Sharrel, it looks LOVELY on you! Anita? A mistake? It was hardly a mistake. I risked not only my life on that planet but yours and Sharrel's. I felt the power behind that Aliens jolt of light that he hit me with. It was hard, it hurt and I know could have easily been used to kill...ALL OF US! (In a somber tone again) In a way, I wish it had done me in. Now in this state I am going to be a burden to everyone in my life. I don't want that for Perrin.
