Alright Oliver, can you slide over onto that bed?

We are very glad you like it Oliver.
Now you relax. I going to anesthetize the area of your arm with this device. (shows him the magic marker size applicator) This way you won't feel when I put the IV drip in. This is going to be a little cold to the touch, but once it sets on your arm a minute, we can start the IV.
You ready?

You do what you feel you need to do buddy.
I'll be as gentle as I can. Ok, here we go.
(holding Oliver's arm on the bed, he inserts the needle into the big vein in his wrist)

(smiles at Oliver as he closes his eyes and then places her hand on his shoulder to show him comfort)
Only another minute and Nurse Seth will be all done.

(As he holds the needle against Oliver's arm, he finishes making sure the liquid in the IV bag is flowing properly through the line and into his arm. He then takes off the rubber tie he had to get the IV in the vein and then places a large bandage over the area of insertion) All done! And look at you buddy, not a care in the world. Or should I say on the station? LOL You did great Oliver. Now you just have to lay here for an hour or so and we'll see how things progress with that pain. I'm hoping this helps you with your fear of the Medical area of the station. I know you have had an issue with it since you have been here.
