That is what they thought.
Then a child runs up to the people, yelling out greetings, which gains the attention of the rest of the villagers, who all stop and rush to greet the new people.
After greeting, some of which are recognized old friends, they are all invited to rest while their prepare a greetings feast.

I agree.
Mean while on the surface the other villager is travelling further and further into the forest.
But something strange happens, as he travels and he stops.
He feels like he walked through a light shower, but there is no rain.
He walks back, and feels it again.
He walks forward and feels it again.
He walks back, and feels it again.
He walks forward and feels it again.
He walks back, and feels it again.
Confused, he sits and ponders about what is going on.

He doesn't know what it is, but decides that he will go around or try to figure out how to go around. To make sure he knows about where the edge is, he looks for and find the red rock. Using it, he marks x's on the trees to he can keep track as he goes along. Always trying to be aware of going though the 'light shower' feeling.

Good idea, but I'm sure the birds will eat his trail.
Mean while in the above ground village, where first the young man left then the group left, they noticed the odd behaviour of the tracking signals. People were taking shifts to monitor any possible signal.
The signals would flicker on and off, but over time, the signals were showing a pattern, and most definitely a direction. This gave them hope, at least some hope that they were alive, and some wanted to leave right away, but others, wanted to watch the signal for at least a day.
If the signal continued to move in any direction, by the time any above ground villager got there, the others, could be gone, and they didn't know they were underground.
If the signals stayed put they would have a better chance of knowing where they where and that they could reach them.
Meanwhile in the underground village, unbeknown to any of them, all of the tunnels that they had travelled through headed away from the Zetaloids.

Those in the underground village, had welcomed and celebrated the new group, and they found sleeping accommodations for them near the 'river'. It is an underground river, that runs crystal clear.
It was a regular looking village, but upon closer inspection the huts were not made of the 'grass' or 'wood' one would think off, they were made of a thin slate, creatively constructed.
And the light is strange, because no one could figure it out, but what was happening, is that during the daylight outside, it was filtering through the cavern roof, so it will fill the cavern with light, and at dusk, the light would diminish, as it became night outside, but there was the luminescent along the walls of the large cavern that help to fill it with a faint light at night.

Food was cooked not with wood, but with hot rocks.
Again no one knew why in one section of the cavern the rocks were always hot, but they were.
Food, was harvested from the water, from the fish, and the algae that grew there in some of the side pools, and on one end of the cavern there was soft earth, soil, that grew some edible plants that people harvested.
The cavern was huge, about the length of two football fields, and as wide as two football fields, but round.
