Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, it was so far away, it was forgotten by most. The land had two large villages, the Randor's and Zelafens.

The lived close enough for a hour or so walk, but the issue was they had to walk through the jungle.
The Randor's and Zelafens, got along fabulously, and had a thriving trade between them, when they could get through the jungle.

There are many, many dangers seen and unseen in the jungle, but this danger comes from something that is neither seen nor unseen, simultaneously.

Its giant chameleon zetaloid, its four legs, and two arms, along with is twelve foot length can intimidate anyone, not to mention it is about six foot in height, it is a master of disguise changing multiple colours at any one time. No one has ever really seen it, there are rumours, myths and legends.
The only known fact is that people disappear and are never seen again.

The two villages did have a way of communication, they were primitive and yet not primitive. They did have technology, but choose to use very little technology, and choose rather to favour nature. They had trained birds, pigeons to relay messages.
They didn't want to hurt the thing in the forest, but knew something had to be done. between the two villages, they each sought a volunteer to wear an electronic tracker.
Each village, found a volunteer, they were fitted with a tracker, and would enter the forest at the same time.

At dawn on the next day, each village at opposite ends of the forest, the volunteers entered.
Nervous, and trying to put on a brave face, uncertain what would happen, but hoping they make it.

Entering the forest, they are very nervous and very carefully, try to walk without noise and breath in silence.
Both keep to the path, and somewhat relax after some time of walking, still watching the shadows in the forest as they path.
As a squirrel runs out past one of the walkers, he stifles a scream and has to sit down to calm his beating heart.

The villager was to frighted to realize that the squirrel might be running from something.

Something light touches his shoulder, and he jumps up and screams, and then sees the thin vine hanging from the tree, he sits down and laughs.
He is far enough from the village for no one to hear him, and far enough from the other villager also not to hear him.

What he didn't notice is that with perfect silence, the forest's creature, the zetaloid had sat down beside him, in perfect camouflage.

The zetaloid passes him a fruit, and without thinking about it, he takes it.
After the first bite, he stops and thinks about it, why is there floating fruit and how did it come to him?
He looks around with nervousness, the zetaloid is so close he isn't capable of seeing the almost imperceptible outline of him, but as he looks up, he sees the zetaloid's eyes looking down at him.
He faints.
