Many light years distant, a small ship appears, apparently having been spewed out of a wormhole....
Marina's eyes opened as did the induction of a bad headache. First thing coming into focus were the base of her chair...then the cockpit floor.
Slowly she peeled herself off the floor. Every bone and muscle ached like she had been slammed against the hull.
Wait-
She had slammed against the hull, Marina suddenly remembered.
Still, what had happened?
Last she recalled, her ship were traveling through hyperspace when suddenly everything seemed to have stopped, like the Mariner IV hit a brick wall. Last she remembered was becoming airborne and slamming into one of the cockpit's consoles.
"Tk?" Marina called out for her droid. It had been in the cockpit with her when something went wrong with the hyper-drive...or so she thought.
"Tk, what happened?.."
No answer from her droid.
Her ship's vitals were just at the moment all coming back on line with no damage reports or malfunctions alarms. Marina looked about the cockpit for her droid, finding the astromech on it's side and seemingly off line. Marina staggered over to it, finding no apparent damage other than it was out of power. She figured to see about getting it back on line after she checked over the ship's data, which had by now fully populated.
The Mariner IV was free floating in space, her engines off line, as the system seemed to have been rebooted automatically.
Her quick check on the Mariner's position/location was still cycling as if the Nav Comp couldn't get a fix on it's position.
"What the?.." The star systems the ship's sensors were picking up weren't matching anything in it's database. Hundreds of star systems analysed that minute were fruitless.
Marina ran a diagnostic on the Nav Comp and it came up functioning. By that time, thousands upon thousands of star system analysed were unrecognizable.
But what did come up on the Nav Comp was the fact that during her hyper-space jump, the Mariner IV had somehow come across a rogue worm hole.
Marina's jaw dropped. She could be anywhere!
~ ~ ~ standard days later ~ ~ ~
Her droid was still out for no apparent reason. Marina's many attempts at rebooting her astromech droid and running extensive diagnostics were of no avail. She concluded she were on her own for now.
Out of the millions of star systems her Nav Comp cycled through during those days in trying to determine where she was, all were alien, not in the ship's nav database. Marina concluded that she were no longer in Skyriver, her own galaxy.
But what her ship did pick up light years away was an unnatural artificial mass. It were emitting energy reflections that indicated it was a structure of some kind...a large platform or station maybe.
With nowhere else to navigate too, Marina calculated the jump coordinates and made the jump toward it.
The Mariner IV came out of the jump 100,000 kilometers distance from the object.
It were close enough for her ship's sensors to fully analyse the structure and distance enough away for her to have time to jump away.
Sure enough it were a space station. Again, her ship's data base had no records of anything near the mass of the station. It were alien to her.
Still, she were lost and had no clue as to getting back to anywhere familiar. Was she even in her own galaxy? That was the question on her mind.
Marina made a heading at sub-light to the station...going slow enough so that she would not be misconstrued as an attack ship, but fast enough to make it here in good time.
"This is Marina DeVoe of Mariner IV to unidentified station. I am unarmed and in need of assistance...over." She hailed the station when she were close enough for them to scan her for themselves and determine she were telling the truth about not being armed.
"I repeat. This is Marina DeVoe of Mariner IV to unidentified station. I am unarmed and in need of assistance...over." she made sure she sent out her transmission in easily translated code in case whatever language of communication this alien station used would be recognizable.
