"This is Major Voss...Sarina....No easy way to tell you this....Talusia destroyed and the Mayor has just beamed back over to inform her people. The XO has been informed and we wanted you to be involved. Looks like you may have your work cut out for you on this one. Major Voss out."

*Thinks to himself*

+After speaking with the medical staff about the care being provided to the colonists, she makes her way to the hanger and begins looking at all the people and taking in just how massive the care needs to be+

First off, I believe the best way to tell them about what happened to Talusia is to come right out and say it. Some people will panic, others may have difficulty accepting it and health issues like depression could and probably will manifest, but I do believe this type of news and with this many people, you should come right out and tell them. That may sound harsh, but I believe in the long run they will thank you for being upfront and honest with them. We can deal with the panic and depression and whatever else comes with it. I've spoken to the med staff that have been working with your people and although they can't do as much one on one as I'd like, they are keeping everyone calm. Your people have the trust of the medical staff here.

Second, with your honesty with them and the compassion I know you will and have conveyed to them, this will unite you as a people and that is half the battle ma'am.

Now the med staff and I can stand with you as you tell them if you like. Showing a united front as a team, you as their leader and we as their caregivers, and the safety shown to them by being in a spacecraft away from any harm, showing them they are being taken care of, all this should help minimize any serious trauma. But like I said, there will be some, but I believe it will be minimal. If you stay strong. And if you don't mind my suggesting...keeping your senses alert and to not do any more drinking till we have a grip on how they are handling the news. Your composure is going to be essential to their individualized acceptance of the situation and resolve to see this through to a good conclusion.
