The Planet Minerra, a world bustling with nearly 700,000 Empathic people. Many cities, large and small and an industry that promoted mineral trade with many other close by worlds. The planet also had an abundance of tropical areas that was home to many beautiful flowers, trees and other flora distinct to Minerra alone. The governing body of Minerra was housed in a sort of Ark of Hope that orbited the planet. There lived the Governors and Senators of the districts on Minerra and of course the Ruler of all Minerra, the Chamberlain. He alone made the final decisions concerning all the populace of the planet.
One day, it had been discovered that the mining of Minerra’s minerals was causing damage to the atmosphere and of course ultimately all life on the planet. Also their empathic powers were affected genetically by the damaging atmospheric conditions that more and more births were non empathic births. The race was losing their genetic heritage.
After many years of ignorance from the governing officials ignoring the evidence of such damage, the planet started dying. Upset with the governing council and their lack of acceptance of responsibility to handle the problem, Dr. Gladius Zok, along with his wife Nyssa and their toddler son Perrin, stowed aboard a Freighter leaving the area for an extended run to another galaxy. Not wanting to leave their world, they knew it was the only way to give their son hope for any kind of future, for Minerra was predicted to be nothing more than a barren rock within two decades. They became fugitives because it was against the law for any Minerrans to leave the planet, a law handed down by the Chamberlain so as not to panic the other worlds that did trade with them. Their own greed meant that Minerra was destined for extinction.
The Freighter made many stops on its course through several galaxies, but the elder Zoks were taken off the ship when they were discovered hiding in the cargo bay. Placed on a cruiser, they were sent back to Minerra to face their crime of leaving the planet. But the Zoks made sure toddler Perrin Zok was hidden well and not discovered. What happened to the Zoks is not known.
Were they returned to Minerra or did they find a way off the cruiser? One of the stops the Freighter made was in the Dual System where it docked for a time at the Space Station Solaris Humanus to refuel and take on supplies. Young Perrin Zok, with the help of understanding crewmen, after finding him onboard, got him onto Solaris Humanus secretly and safely, leaving him to be found by one Sherman Potts, then eventually by Chancellor Insighthealer and ultimately put into Professor Scifire’s care. To this day, Perrin Zok does not know from where he hails, who his parents are or if they still exist nor where his empathic abilities come from.
BUT THAT DAY IS COMING……
