*With the timer winding down, Bubba tries to keep Lt. Boma conscious and ready to go when the explosion creates the needed opening.*
Stay with me, dude. We're gonna be fine. When that blaster goes off, we both make a bee line for the exit, then slam the door on these freaks. Then you can buy me a beer...or several. Or maybe one of those numbers with the cute, little umbrellas. Always wanted to try one, but never had the nerve to order 'em. I don't even know what they're called. I'll bet Ensign Lowell knows. Hey...we can take her with us and let her do the ordering. That way, we can say that they're for her, not us macho guys. Nice plan, huh? Yeah...that's what we'll do. That's what we'll...what we'll...umm....Greg? Have you seen the...umm...the blaster?
*Looking down, the foam hiding them from the creatures has now swallowed up the blaster. The same blaster that is rapidly counting down to overload...*

(Speaking like he is drugged, he answers Bubba) Lt. Gregory Boma: Sounds good Bubba. I'll buy! And that blaster has about 30 seconds left before it takes that creature to HELL and us with it if we don't make it to the Lab. (Boma stands, leans more on Bubba again and they head for the Lab) Attachments:

Greg, I...uh...I don't see the darn thing. Give me a second.....
*Diving into the foam, Bubba frantically searches for the blaster, while Lt. Boma does his best to help by diverting some of the foamy material. After what seems like an eternity, a hand appears from under the froth holding the ticking weapon, and with only moments to spare he quickly slides the blaster toward the creature blocking the exit. To say the following explosion was larger than expected would be more than an understatement. The ensuing shock wave rocks the area, sending both men skittering backward into the nearby bulkhead, where they end up in a tangle of arms and legs. With their ears ringing like a large kettle had been placed over their heads and beaten with a club for days, the two stumble to their feet and try to shake off the insidious din, while looking to the results of the blast.*
Do...do you see anything, Greg...?

Yeah, yeah it could work. But we would have to transport the fibers immediately into some sort of container to hold them. Preferably one with a force field around it. Level 10 comes to mind!
(they hear a blast in the room outside the Lab)
What the Hell?! Bubba and Boma are still out there!!

What? I can't hear you! What was that...?
*Not able to shake off the effects of the blast, Bubba follows Lt. Boma's lead.*
*Cough...Cough*...Let's get outta hear! I don't see any critters blocking the way now. Man...this ringing in my ears...

(The two men struggle but manage to get to the Lab door. Boma presses the switch but the door doesn't open. Realizing that Bubba is finding hard to hear with how loud he is speaking, Boma yells...) Lt. Gregory Boma: DAMN IT! THE HEAT FROM THE BLAST MUST HAVE WARPED THE SEAL ON THE LAB HATCH. (He stops pressing the switch and lets Bubba stand on his own two feet a moment while he pounds on the door) Lt. Gregory Boma: NIGEL, SETH, KYLE ANYBODY! THE HATCH WON'T OPEN! CAN YOU GET IT FROM INSIDE? Attachments:

Ensign Kyle Robinson: I've got this Seth. Step aside. (as he does so, Kyle weakly grab the Fire extinguisher off the wall next to the hatch and begin spraying around the outline of it. After a minute, he sets the extinguisher down and tries the door)
Ensign Kyle Robinson: The switch still doesn't work. (He pounds on the sides of the hatch in hopes of loosening its grip) DAMN IT! Still won't open. He picks up the extinguisher and sprays all around the hatch again, then sets it down. Pressing the switch, the hatch opens slowly and half way)
Ensign Kyle Robinson: That did it! (he yells out as Boma grabs Bubba again and they make their last couple of steps to the Lab Hatch)
Lt. Gregory Boma: C'mon Bubba, we got this!
(Boma and Bubba slide into the Lab through the half opened Hatch)

(Quickly closing the hatch behind Bubba and Lt. Boma)
Kyle, help Lt. Boma to the exam table while I help Bubba to the chair.
Are you alright Bubba? (Puts his hand in front of Bubba's face, with one finger up, moving it from side to side) Follow my finger Bubba. I want to check your response.

*Still dazed by the explosion, Bubba tries to understand Seth...*
What?! You want to wreck poor Alphonse??? What does that mean? And who the heck is Alphonse...?!!
*With all the uninfected crew gathered in the lab, the medical staff gets to work treating the wounded. Some injuries are minor and are quickly addressed by their SST teammates. But the major injuries require Seth and Nigel's skill and expertise. The most serious problem belongs to Ensign Lowell: a huge gash on her leg. It is very deep, severing muscles, tendons and an artery. The two immediately go into action, trying to stem the blood loss, and repair the spurting vessel.
And while their attention is directed elsewhere, a new problem arises. Although Seth had closed the door to the lab, the damage has prevented it from latching properly, leaving a slight gap. Emerging through the opening, one of the creatures slithers into the lab undetected...*

Sorry to pull you away from Bubba Seth, but Beth is going to need our immediate attention! (After setting up as sterile an area as they can, they work frantically at repairing Beth's muscles, tendons and an artery that is being very stubborn to close to stop the bleeding) Keep that gauze right there Seth. I'll have this sewed up, no pun intended, in just another few seconds! (Nigel finally seals the artery and cleans the area to sew her up) Well, after inspecting it all, I think we did it. Looks nice and clean. (hands Seth a molecular suture instrument) I'll let you do the honors of closing that wound buddy. You always did have a great knack for making the best closings I've ever seen. (As Nigel takes his gloves off, he notices something out of the corner of his eye) Kyle, (walks over to Ensign Robinson) there is a gap at the hatch! Lets get this completely sealed before we do anything else!

Ensign Kyle Robinson: (hears it click in place) There, that should do it Nigel. (Then notices the floor in the front of the hatch) Ummm guys, why is there a sticky looking, squiggly gooey trail around the floor of the hatch?

OOC: Sorry it took so long. It's been a bit hectic.
*Watching Seth and Nigel work their magic on Ensign Lowell, Bubba continues to struggle with the effects of the blast...*
Awesome job, gentlemen. Now that you've got Beth fixed up, how about checking Greg over there? That blast really slammed the snot out of us, and he really got rocked. And is there anything you can do about this ringing in my ears? It's like being stuck in a dryer set on extra-high spin cycle...
*Several of the crew pitch in to help with the lesser injuries, while the medical staff handle the major problems. Security team members double check to make sure all the entries and exits are locked down tightly, while others activate monitors to keep close watch on the creatures and the infected crew. Still managing to keep hidden, the lone intruder slides along undetected until it positions itself under one of the examining tables. And there it remains, as if listening...watching...and waiting.*

Nigel, let someone else check for those creatures. You should take a look at Greg while I help Bubba.
(Walks over to Bubba and helps him into a chair)
We only have the one examining table Bubba, and Beth is using it. So this chair will have to do, sorry.
So there is a ringing in your ears? Not surprising if you were as close to that blast as it looked like you were. (Takes out his instrument and checks both ears inside)
Doesn't appear to be any permanent damage done Bubba. But they are red inside. The blast compressed the air around you and tried to puncture your ear drums. Good thing you weren't any closer or you'd be wearing those drums as earrings!
(Gives him a hypodermic dose of coagladone) There, that should reduce the swelling in both ears in just a couple of minutes. The ringing you are hearing will lessen as the swelling reduces. Be patient OK?

Did you say I'll be wearing those plums and herrings...?!! Seth, are you sure the blast didn't bounce you around, too?
*Seeing the reassuring expression on Nigel's face, Bubba begins to relax and breath a bit easier. While he waits for the medication to act, he has a chance to observe the rest of the crew as they quickly go about the task of securing the area. A few of the security team, having left the room earlier, return with what appears to be a small, but lethal-looking cannon. Mounted on a tripod, they set it up facing the entry door into the inner platform. Some of the other team members start to lay out the equipment they brought back, presumably from a supply locker close by. Still not up to speed, Bubba can't quite make out exactly what the various items are. But whatever they are, he feels better knowing the team is prepared. Ensign Lowell seems to be resting well, after Seth and Nigel finished caring for her wounds. Without their skill and expertise, the outcome would have been drastically different. A loud noise pulls Bubba's attention to the window between the platform and the Med Bay...*
(To himself) What the...what are they doing out there...?
*Through the window, Bubba can see the infected crew shuffling about in the other room. Moving in a trance-like but purposeful manner, they appear to be gathering together pieces of equipment that had been torn loose during the preceding battle. At various intervals, the crew stops and turns, as if listening to someone...or something. After a few moments, they return to their peculiar task. A small pile begins to grow in the center of the platform, surrounded by the odd creatures. In what can only be described as deeply disturbing, the creatures somehow seem to be communicating with each other, and start connecting the pieces together in a bizarre jigsaw puzzle. Using their weird appendages, they are able to fasten various components, slowly constructing some kind of unknown apparatus. A cold shiver runs up and down Bubba's spine as a large knot begins to form in his stomach...*

Robie, I don't think they're building an ice cream machine out there. Whatever it is, it doesn't look good to me. Greg, I've got a very bad feeling about this...
*In the outer chamber, the infected crew members gather more and more components, and the sinister looking machine continues to grow. In the next room, Lt. Boma and the others look on with horrified fascination, watching the creatures weave together their unknown construction. The menacing device rapidly increases, both in size and threat as each piece of the ominous puzzle is added. *
Well, I don't know about you guys, but I need a drink. Maybe we can figure out what's going on out there after a few bottles to settle our nerves. Greg...Robie...you fellas know where they keep the good stuff around here...?

*Led by Ensign Dillon, the able bodied crew members continue to forage for supplies and manage to locate a few more formidable-looking weapons. In the opposite corner of the lab, the collection of wounded steadily decreases as Nigel and Seth contend with the broad range of injuries. And while their attention is focused on the patients, the creature lurking beneath the examine table shifts it's position to better conceal itself. At that same moment, an odd sensation causes Bubba to stop and slowly turn toward the diligent medical team. With his hearing returning to normal as a result of Seth's care, he calls out to the dedicated pair...*
Umm...Seth...Nigel? Are you guys...did you feel, or see any...?
*Bubba takes in a deep breath and continues...*
Do you need anything over there? Is there anything I can do to help...?
*The creature shifts slightly again. The odd sensation returns...*
Let me come over there to see what I can do. Maybe I can get you a sandwich or something...
*With each step closer to the medical staff and the examine table, another hair on Bubba's neck stands on end...*

(Concerned, about what is grabbing the attention of the SST at the hatch, Nigel walks to the hatch as he quickly shuts down Bubba's need for a drink)
Water only Bubba, we need clear and focused minds for now. I did feel a vibration of some kind. Something's not right.
(looking out the hatch window with the other SST)
What the HELL is going on out there?

(Walks over to the hatch with another weapon he found) Ensign Jacob Dillon: Looks to me like they are building some sort of device to end this stalemate Nigel. I say we open the hatch and storm the room before they get a chance to finish it and us. We have to save Solaris from this madness! Attachments:

*Begrudgingly following Nigel's veto of any liquid fortitude, Bubba mumbles something inappropriate under his breath while searching a nearby cupboard...*
Ratsa...Fratsa...Grumble...Grumble...Hey! Look at this...
*Finding a box of protein bars, he stuffs a few in his pocket and offers one to Seth...*
Here you go, Seth. This should give you a little boost. I'm not sure what flavor you've got...mine says "Cosmic Cookie Crunch". "Cookie Crunch"? Hmmm...that reminds me of...
*Before he can finish his thought, a troubling sound from the other room pulls Bubba to the window along side Nigel and Ensign Dillon. Looking into the outer chamber, he notices the strange device has grown much larger, and is now emitting a low hum while a panel of lights can be seen cycling through an unfamiliar pattern...*
Oh crap...this can't be good...
