"The DHD is well out of the way of the opening wormhole so once the address is dialed in it should be safe. First the M.A.L.P. is sent through and it sends back the all safe. It checks the air quality and the DHD on the other end to ensure we can get back. Also scans the area of any unfriendlies."
*turns to the recruits.
"Glad you could make it. Captain Thomas thought it would be a good idea to go to the Alpha Site. This will be a safe point should we run into unfriendlies during our adventures. It is fully stocked with food and medical supplies. Even though we know it is safe on the other end we are going to still follow gate travel protocol. Everyone that goes through will be armed and carry a pack with some essential survival gear....Captain,...Ambassador? Would you like to add anything?"

I think this is a good exercise to start with, and remember we learn from our mistakes, so if we are going to make some, this is the time to do it, in a safe environment.

"While we wait for the readings from the other side. On off world missions..I will be the first to step through going away and the last to step through returning home. Going to the alpha site will get you accustomed to the sensations and such of gate travel....Also going through...I know this is the alpha site and it should be safe enough....everyone have your weapon locked and loaded and ready to fight should the need arise. The universe is a big place and their may be some unfriendlies out there."
